Back in the saddle
I finally finished the short story for my fiction writing class at Inprint. In all honesty, I have never put so much thought and energy into something. Certainly not writing, which has always been relicked to the wait-until-the-night-before-or-day-of to do list. What a breath of fresh air! I don't know what my classmmates will think of the story or if it's even any good. But I have to admit, I'm pretty fond of the way it turned out. More than anything, I'm having rare feelings of being proud of a job well done. I was surprised how early I started and how steadily I worked on it, only to have it never seem to be finished. I determined to keep the momentum and start on my next story (we write two stories and workshop each twice, once after they've been revised). Next week, I will be one of three girls to get their story workshopped and I'm both excited and nervous. Mostly because my story turned out to be a little politically charged. Today, I got a good start on my next story, which I actually like better. I'm a little caught off guard by actually liking what I've written and I'm a little afraid of getting my bubble burst in class. My classmmates are fair though, so I feel confident that regardless of their personal convictions, they can give me honest feedback that can only help the story.
